With subtle visual and typographic changes, designer Robb Rice has transformed his ‘Classic’ City/Regional template into a more energetic and modern design. The rigid framework of column rules and line-work has been removed, justified body text has been set flush left/rag right, and bold lede-in text replaces drop caps in the front-of-book for a faster read and more contemporary feel. In addition to images that bleed outside of the margins, overlapping captions and section flags add significant energy and character to the page. Unique section slugs anchor front-of-book pages, providing clear navigation for readers and an opportunity for template customization (ie., extended across page to form a strap, or bled off the top of the page to form a tab).
